Senate Sends Small Business Tax Cut to Governor
MADISON, WI – The state Senate continued to roll through its Special Session on Jobs today,
passing an important tax credit to help Wisconsin small businesses create jobs in the real world.
According to state Senator Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau), the state is moving quickly in the right
direction – making Wisconsin Open for Business again.
The minority Democrats, unfortunately, decided once again to deride the Senate Republicans’
job creation efforts on the floor of the Senate.
“It seems like every time the Democrats say ‘you’re not doing anything about jobs,’ we pass
another jobs bill. They were out of touch in the majority, and now they’re out of touch in the
minority. I hope the Democrats realize soon that the problems we’re facing are too severe for
this kind of partisanship,” Fitzgerald said.
The legislation passed today is aimed at improving Wisconsin’s business climate by partnering
with the private sector, moving away from the failed mentality that the government is the only
way to create jobs.
The final vote on the bill was a bipartisan 25-8. Having already been passed by the Assembly,
the bill now goes to Gov. Walker for his signature.
The media has taken notice of the Republicans’ rapid action on the state’s top issue: last week
the Associated Press said that Republican lawmakers were in “hyperdrive” on jobs legislation.
“Republicans promised that we would move quickly on jobs legislation, and I’m proud to say
we’re keeping that promise,” Fitzgerald said.
