Prevailing Wage a Political Payoff to Unions

The Beloit Daily News wrote an editorial about the negative impact of implementing “prevailing wage” in Wisconsin. Wisconsin Democrats are pushing the legislation, which would mandate “prevailing wage” contractors for projects funded or partially funded with taxpayer dollars. As the editorial writes:
Call it the non-union-firms-need-not-apply plan. Michael Mooney, chairman of the MLG Group, which has been instrumental in creating the Gateway Business Park in Beloit and others like it across the state, was quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “This would be a bad idea in good times,” he said. “In bad times this is economic suicide.”
If passed, it will be yet another disincentive for employers and job expansion in our state. Jobs are taking a back burner to the Democrats’ desire to pay back their union buddies.
